This is the first of two posts today, the second one being scheduled to publish shortly after this one. I took these shots on Saturday evening, April 8th, at the National War Memorial, where an evening service was being held to mark the following day- the centennial of the Battle of Vimy Ridge. This included remarks by dignitaries, music, the placing of electric candles around the monument, and an overnight vigil by Army cadets.
It also included an illumination of the Memorial, including images of the battle and of Walter Allwards' Vimy Ridge memorial and its sculptural details, making a connection between the two monuments so far apart. It was a very moving ceremony. For my next post, I'll show you the service of yesterday morning.
